Jewellery Heist Queenpin Nabbed in Luton
Daiana Anghel, 23, was caught red-handed after a bold jewellery shop sting last year. Maidstone police flew to Luton to snap up the alleged ring robber linked to two high-value heists.
Rings Swiped and Swapped for Fakes
- August 17, 2022: At Bluewater’s H Samuel, staff caught on to a scheme where three rings vanished after being tried on, with two replaced by near-perfect fakes.
- September 10, 2022: A nearly £9,000 ring got snatched from Cornell and Sons in Maidstone, hidden by a woman posing as a shopper.
Arrest and Charges
Officers arrested Anghel at her Tenby Drive home on January 11, 2023. She faces serious charges:
- Two counts of theft
- One count of fraud
- Possessing more than 60 fake rings, intended for use in fraud
Appearing at Luton Magistrates’ Court the next day, Anghel pleaded guilty and was granted conditional bail. She’s due for sentencing on February 23 at Luton Crown Court.
