Canvey Island Murder: Police Say No Risk to Public After Fatal Attack

Man Found Fatally Injured Near Iceland Car Park

A man in his 40s was discovered seriously hurt in the car park of Iceland on Furtherwick Road just before 1:45am this Saturday (4 February). Despite efforts to save him, he sadly died at the scene.

Targeted Attack Linked to Local Pub

Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood, leading the probe, revealed the victim and suspects had been inside The Haystack pub earlier that evening. He said:

“I believe someone who was in the pub or lives locally will know the identity of those responsible. I urge anyone with information to contact us or Crimestoppers.”

DCI Wood emphasised that this looked like a targeted assault and does not pose a wider threat to the community.

Police Operation Ongoing, But Public Disruption Expected to Ease

The investigation is making progress with officers working through the day and tomorrow. A police cordon remains in place but may be reduced later to ease disruption in the town centre.

“I know this has caused disruption to the centre of Canvey,” said DCI Wood, “but it has been to allow essential work to take place. I want to thank the public for their patience and understanding.”
