Gun Chaos on Norfolk’s A11 Ends in Fatal Police Shooting

Tony Keeble, 61, from Thetford, was shot dead by armed police after a collision sparked a terrifying drama. The crash involved a car and a Mercedes van on London Road, Thetford, just after 8.25pm on Sunday, December 28.

Witnesses say Keeble fled the scene carrying a handgun, triggering a major police response shortly after 9pm.

Armed Officers Confront Suspect – Shots Fired

Police caught up with Keeble by the side of the A11. Officers ordered him twice to drop the weapon. Seconds later, two armed officers fired a single fatal shot, hitting him in the chest and abdomen.

Despite desperate attempts by paramedics and emergency crews, Keeble was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gun Recovered, Full Investigation Launched

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) confirmed a firearm, reportedly not issued by police, was seized. Investigators are now combing through bodycam and dashcam footage to piece together exactly what happened.

“We understand incidents like this cause public concern, especially locally. We’re conducting a robust, independent investigation to establish the full circumstances,” said IOPC Director Amanda Rowe.

“We have contacted Mr Keeble’s family, who request privacy during this difficult time.”

The officers involved remain on duty as witnesses. So far, there is no evidence suggesting any breach of professional standards.
