Teen Banged Up for Brutal NHS Staff Attacks
A 19-year-old woman from Eastbourne has been locked up for 10 months after launching a savage attack at Conquest Hospital, St Leonards. Courtney Stewart went on a rampage on 21 April 2025, assaulting a hospital worker and two police officers. She didn’t stop there – Stewart also unleashed a torrent of racist abuse at a security guard.
Guilty Plea Lands Stewart a Hard Sentence at Lewes Crown Court
Stewart admitted guilt to three counts of assault by beating and racially aggravated behaviour meant to cause alarm and distress. On 17 February, Lewes Crown Court handed down a tough sentence that sends a clear warning: attacks on NHS staff will not be tolerated.
Operation Cavell: Police Stand Firm Behind NHS Heroes
Sussex Police have thrown their weight behind Operation Cavell, a nationwide campaign involving police, the NHS, and the Crown Prosecution Service. The operation aims to crack down on abuse and violence against healthcare workers and ensure swift justice.
“Thank you to the staff involved for their courage in reporting this incident,” said Sergeant Kieron Bracey. “We want all NHS workers to know we will act strongly against anyone who assaults or abuses them.”
Violence towards NHS staff is a serious crime — and it’s no part of their job. Frontline heroes deserve to work without fear of harm, threats, or harassment.
