Manslaughter Plea After Fatal Stab Attack
Rick Parker, 42, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter after stabbing his mother, Helen Harrison, to death at their Market Weighton home in March 2023. The chilling incident unfolded just minutes before he called 999, claiming, “there is a woman who has been badly injured.”
Violence Hits Family Twice in Weeks
Earlier, on 19 February 2023, Parker had launched an unprovoked attack on his stepfather, headbutting and punching him and causing facial injuries. He admitted to actual bodily harm in that assault as well, with both offences investigated together.
Medical Experts Reveal Mental Health Issues
Parker was originally charged with murder but was found mentally unwell and unfit to plead. After nearly a year under psychiatric care in a secure hospital, medical evidence showed diminished responsibility at the time of the stabbing. This led to his murder charge being reduced to manslaughter.
Sentencing Delayed as Parker Awaits Hospital Order Verdict
Following a February 2024 fact-finding trial that confirmed Parker’s role in both attacks, the court imposed a restricted hospital order. Parker remains in secure psychiatric care and will only be released after legal and medical assessments.
