A 16-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a 73-year-old man in Cheltenham has been released without further action, police confirmed.
Two Teens Held in Deadly Assault Probe
The teenager was one of two young males detained last week following a serious assault on Honeybourne Way at around 7.30pm on Wednesday, 8 April. While the younger teen has been freed, a 17-year-old remains on police bail as the investigation continues.
Violence Erupted After Incident on Millennium Bridge
Officers say the victim was involved in an earlier altercation linked to two males on the Millennium Bridge. It’s reported a large branch was thrown at a cyclist passing below, who thankfully was uninjured. The two males then left the bridge but were confronted by the elderly man on Honeybourne Way. Police revealed an exchange took place before one of the men punched the victim, causing him to fall. Both fled before police arrived.
Victim Dies in Hospital, Police Appeal for Witnesses
Emergency services rushed the man to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in critical condition. He died two days later on Friday, 10 April. Gloucestershire Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team is leading the inquiry. After reviewing CCTV footage, they released images of two suspects to the public and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
