Lloyd Burgess, 65, from Sheep Street, Devizes, was sentenced to 11 years in prison at Winchester Crown Court on May 1 after pleading guilty to two counts of indecent assault against a girl between 1995 and 1998. The victim came forward in 2021, triggering a police investigation by Wiltshire Police. Alongside his jail term, Burgess was handed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and must register on the Sex Offenders Register.
Long-delayed Justice
The assaults took place in the mid-1990s but only came to light when the victim reported the abuse in 2021. This led to Burgess’s arrest and eventual prosecution, concluding with his conviction in 2026.
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery
“I’d like to take this opportunity to praise the victim in this case for her bravery in reporting her ordeal to police all these years later. In doing so, she has enabled us to conduct an investigation into Burgess’ offending and ensure he was put before the courts,” said Detective Constable Nicky Cross.
She added, “This case should serve as an example to anyone who may have experienced this kind of ordeal that it is crucial you report this to police, regardless of how much time has since passed. We will always take reports of this nature seriously and will leave no stone unturned in investigating offenders like Burgess.”
