Kent Police arrested and charged a 36-year-old man after a violent theft at a Gillingham store on Pier Road on the evening of Monday 5 May 2026. Michael Clough, from Basildon, Essex, allegedly smashed bottles, stole cigarettes, and threw coffee jars at staff during the incident at around 9.30pm.

Swift Police Response

Officers promptly attended the scene and launched a search of the surrounding area. About an hour later, they located and arrested Clough on foot near the Medway Tunnel.

Charges Brought

Clough has been charged with burglary, common assault, and criminal damage. He has been bailed and is due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 18 August.
