A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon following a serious assault in Firsdown, Salisbury. Wiltshire Police responded to the incident on 5 May after a woman in her 50s was seriously injured but her condition is not life-threatening. The man was taken into custody in Melksham after evening searches involving a police helicopter.
Serious Assault Reported
Officers arrived at the address at around 4:45pm after receiving reports that a woman had been assaulted by a man known to her. She was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
Manhunt And Arrest
The suspect fled the scene, prompting extensive police searches across Salisbury. Support from a police helicopter helped locate the man, who was arrested at approximately 10:40pm.
Police Reassurance to the Public
DI Eirin Martin said: “We appreciate the significant concern this incident caused, with a heightened police presence across the city whilst searches of an address were carried out, as well as searches to locate the man. Please be reassured that this was an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public and we have arrested a man in connection with it.”
