Serious Crash Shuts A303 Bypass Near Cholderton
A major smash on the A303 Bypass near Cholderton, Wiltshire, has brought traffic to a halt in both directions. The multi-vehicle collision happened around 5.30pm on Friday, leaving several people injured.
Air Ambulances Scramble to Crash Site
Emergency crews were quick on the scene just east of Amesbury, with three air ambulances dispatched: Wiltshire and Bath, Hampshire and Isle of Wight, and Dorset and Somerset. Two victims were airlifted to Southampton General Hospital’s Major Trauma Centre for urgent treatment.
A303 Remains Closed – Diversions in Place
The road remains shut from Parkhouse Corner to the Countess roundabout near Amesbury due to the crash’s severity. Drivers are urged to steer clear and follow these diversions:
- Westbound: Exit at Parkhouse Corner and take the A338 towards Salisbury.
- Eastbound: Take the 3rd exit at the roundabout heading towards Amesbury.
Police Launch Full Investigation
Wiltshire Police have launched a full forensic collision investigation. The closure is expected to last until midday Saturday (29 March). A police spokesperson said:
“We are working alongside emergency services to manage the situation and ensure the safety of those involved. The road will remain closed while collision investigators carry out their work.”
