Drama off Sandown: Bembridge Lifeboat Rushed to Rescue Stricken Sailor

The Bembridge lifeboat was scrambled just after 5pm on Monday to aid a sailor in trouble off Whiteclife Bay near Sandown.

Engine Trouble Sparks Emergency Call

A 7-metre vessel sent out a pan-pan call to Solent Coastguard after hitting difficulties on the water. Volunteer lifeboat crew rushed to the scene to help.

Failed Repairs Lead to Rescue Tow

The lifeboat crew tried to fix the engine on-site but their efforts failed. They then towed the vessel safely into Bembridge Harbour, a short distance from the bay.

  • Sunday night saw Yarmouth RNLI launch to assist a yacht near Hurst Point.
  • As Monday began, Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team helped a fog-bound yacht off The Needles, which was escorted to the River Medina by Lymington RNLI.
