Deliberate Blaze Rips Through Epsom Waste Yard
Police have launched a criminal investigation after a massive fire tore through a waste management site in Epsom on Tuesday night. The inferno, suspected to be arson, broke out at the Skip It facility on College Road around 10:30pm on 25 June.
Explosions Rock Quiet Epsom Neighbourhood
Several lorries were engulfed in flames, with residents reporting loud explosions that triggered a barrage of emergency 999 calls. Firefighters from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service scrambled to tame the blaze, backed by Surrey Police and other emergency teams. Miraculously, no injuries were reported.
Road Closures and Investigation Underway
- College Road remains shut between Longdown Lane and 1 Road as probes continue.
- Traffic is being diverted; locals urged to steer clear of the scene.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage
Inspector Tommy Pearson, Epsom and Ewell Borough Commander, said:
“We received multiple reports of explosions last night, which understandably alarmed the community. We are committed to a thorough investigation to find those responsible.”
He added:
“If you have any information, please contact the police immediately.”
Detectives want to speak to anyone near College Road at 10:30pm, or anyone with dashcam, CCTV, or video doorbell footage that could aid the inquiry.
