Major Rescue Operation Underway Off Brighton Coast
Emergency teams are currently battling the early morning chill in a desperate search off Brighton Palace Pier. Reports came in just before 3am on Wednesday, April 16, of a woman spotted struggling in the sea.
Police and Coastguard Join Forces in Full-Scale Search
Sussex Police confirmed the distress call and rushed to the scene, but have released no further details yet. A police spokesperson said: “Police were called following concerns for a woman in the sea off the coast of Brighton just before 3am on Wednesday, April 16. Emergency services remain at the scene and we have no further information at this time.”
HM Coastguard was alerted around 4am and swiftly launched a full rescue response. A spokeswoman added:
“HM Coastguard is responding to reports of a possible person in the water in the Brighton Palace Pier area this morning, April 16. Alerted at around 4am, Shoreham and Newhaven Coastguard Rescue Teams, lifeboats from Shoreham and Brighton RNLI, and a coastguard search and rescue helicopter have been sent to assist.”
Safety Warning: Avoid Brighton Pier Area
Emergency crews remain at the scene, working flat out to locate the woman. The public is urged to steer clear of the area to give rescue teams the space they need.
