RNLI Rescue Two Cut Off by Tide Near Seaford
Newhaven RNLI pulled off a daring rescue on Sunday, 12 May, when two people were stranded by the rising tide east of Seaford Beach. At 12:14pm, the volunteer crew jumped into action after a nearby fishing vessel spotted the pair trapped between Splash Point and Hope Gap.
Swift Action by Lifeboat Crew
The RNLI launched their Severn Class 17-45 lifeboat, The Duke of Kent, straight away. Upon arrival, they deployed the smaller Y Boat to tackle the rocky waters, managing to safely bring the stranded duo back onto the main lifeboat. After a quick health check, the rescued were taken to safety on Seaford Beach.
Tide Safety Warning After Latest Rescue
This dramatic rescue underscores the risks of underestimating the tides. RNLI stats reveal 351 tidal cut-off rescues in 2020 alone. Volunteers like Sam Smith urge everyone heading to the coast to stay smart:
“Tide times and heights change throughout the month and can quickly leave people trapped. Always check tide times before you go. If you or anyone else gets into trouble, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
