Man Dies After Horrific Van Smash in Strathaven

Tragedy struck Strathaven on Saturday morning when a van ploughed into three pedestrians on the A726 Glasgow Road.

Deadly Crash at 10.50am

At around 10.50am on April 1, police were called to the scene where a 29-year-old man and two women were hit by a van. The man sadly died at the scene. A 52-year-old woman was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious but stable injuries. The 24-year-old woman who was also hit attended Wishaw General Hospital and has since been discharged.

Van Driver Arrested and Released

The 47-year-old driver was arrested but later released while inquiries continue.

Police Plea for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

“Although a number of people assisted at the time, we would still ask witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward,” a Police Scotland spokesperson said. “Please call 101 quoting reference 1300 of April 1st, 2023.”

The road was shut for nearly five hours but has now reopened.
