Man Arrested After Attempting to Crash Army Barracks Claiming to Have Explosives
RAM-RAIDER FAILS TO BREAK INTO MILITARY BASE
A 54-year-old man was stopped in his tracks after he tried to force his way into St Omer Barracks in Aldershot on Saturday afternoon. The suspect allegedly drove his car at the gates, claiming he was carrying explosives.
When he failed to get in, he jumped out and verbally abused security guards. He then used a knife to slash his own vehicle.
Explosive Threat Sparks Bomb Squad Response
Police quickly arrived at the scene and arrested the man on suspicion of possessing a knife in public and causing criminal damage. Due to the suspect’s claims about explosives, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called in.
A controlled explosion was carried out on the vehicle as a safety precaution. Fortunately, no explosives were found and nobody was injured.
