Oswestry Man Jailed for Deadly Takeaway Rampage

Stephen McHugh, 28, from Artillery Road, Oswestry, was found guilty yesterday at Stafford Crown Court after a two-week trial.

Four Years for Attempted Attack on Teen

McHugh was also convicted of attempted grievous bodily harm against 18-year-old Kyle Roberts. He will serve four years for this charge, running concurrently with his main sentence.

Deadly Drive Into Crowd Outside Takeaway

In the early hours of Sunday, 9 October, McHugh drove his car at a group of pedestrians outside the Grill Out takeaway on Willow Road in 123 Hospital. Tragically, one victim died shortly after arrival.

Judge Hands Down Tough Sentence

Mr Justice Baker made clear the seriousness of McHugh’s crimes, highlighting the presence of firearms and other aggravating factors. “Those aggravating factors outweigh the mitigating factors and you will serve 18 years,” he said.

Sentencing rules mean McHugh must serve a minimum of 15 years behind bars before being considered for release.
