Drugs-Fuelled Duo Storm Elderly Couple’s Home in Brutal Robbery
Jessica Hodgkinson, of Dundas Road, Sheffield, and an unknown man smashed into an elderly couple’s home around 9am on 26 February 2020. What started as a petty row over cigarettes quickly spiralled into a violent robbery.
Row Over Cigarettes Turns Ugly
Before the raid, Hodgkinson tried to buy cigarettes from a man at a house in Newland Dale, Chesterfield. After arguing over a discount, she left empty-handed. Moments later, she returned with a man carrying a metal bar.
The man struck the elderly homeowner over the head. Although Hodgkinson claimed she didn’t know he was armed until it was too late, she did nothing to stop him. She even attacked the victim’s bed-ridden wife in her 80s, dragging her around the room.
Swift Justice After Shocking Attack
The pair made off with a stash of cigarettes. CCTV footage caught their escape, leading officers to identify Hodgkinson. She was arrested and admitted her involvement.
On Monday 27 September, at Derby Crown Court, Hodgkinson was sentenced to five years behind bars for robbery and attempted robbery. She also received a £181 victim surcharge.
“This was an extremely unpleasant and upsetting attack on two elderly people,” said Detective Staff Investigator David Wright.
“It was more by luck than judgment that nobody was more seriously injured – with both recovering well from their injuries.”
“Hopefully this jail sentence will allow Hodgkinson time to receive support for her drug addiction and prevent further reoffending on her release.”
