Police Use Trading Cards to Win Over Kids in Rushcliffe
A clever pilot in Rushcliffe is shaking up how police connect with youngsters. They’ve launched Rapid Responder trading cards, inspired by hits like Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Match Attax, to break down barriers between cops and kids.
Cool Cars and Cop Craft: The Cards Up Close
The cards spotlight 12 police vehicles—from speedy response cars to operational support units and even police aircraft. Each card ranks vehicles on stats like top speed, brake horsepower, and, crucially, their “cool factor.”
From Schoolyards to Streets: Cards Fly Off the Shelves
Officers hand out these popular cards at school visits, community events, beat surgeries, and patrols. The response? Off the charts. So much so, Nottinghamshire Police are now rolling the project out across more neighbourhoods.
Building Trust One Card at a Time
The initiative was born when the Rushcliffe South Neighbourhood Policing Team brainstormed fresh ways to engage youth. PC Daniel Clarke, a father of three, dreamt up the idea. His own kids’ love of trading cards and the Channel 5 show Police Interceptors inspired the scheme.
“I’m thrilled this project is expanding across the force,” said PC Clarke. “Kids often ask about the show at events. Police vehicles really capture their imagination.
“I want children to feel confident talking to officers—not just see police as the ‘people who take the bad guys away.’ Building bonds with the community is key for neighbourhood teams, and these cards help make that happen.”
Inspector Rob Lawton added: “Demand for these cards in Rushcliffe has been huge. This scheme is a vital way to boost trust, help young people understand our role, and ensure a healthier relationship between police and the next generation.”
