Man Jailed for Brutal Attack and Blaze in Shrewsbury

Javed Qureshi, 30, from Ellesmere Road, Shrewsbury, was slammed with an 18-year jail term for attempted murder at Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday, 5 June.

Gruesome Attack Leaves Victim Fighting for Life

On Halloween night 2023, police were called after a woman was found with serious head and arm injuries in Shrewsbury. The victim suffered multiple cuts, a fractured skull, brain bleeding, and a broken elbow during the vicious assault.

Arson Threatens Neighbourhood

Officers quickly tracked down Qureshi at his nearby home where he had started a fire, causing extensive damage and risking nearby residents’ lives. He was arrested on the spot.

Two Sentences, One Prison Term

Qureshi faced charges of attempted murder and aggravated arson. After a week-long trial, he was found guilty on 26 April 2024.

He was sentenced to 18 years for attempted murder and 4 years for aggravated arson, with both terms to run concurrently.
