Brutal Murder Shock in Durham: Robert Askew Jailed for Life
Robert Askew brutally killed 33-year-old David Teague after holding him captive for hours. The horrific attack happened in April at Askew’s home in Esh Winning, near Durham City.
Fatal Assault with Weapons
Despite desperate efforts by the public and emergency services, David was pronounced dead at the scene. Askew didn’t just stop at murder – he was also found guilty of assault and false imprisonment of a woman he held hostage during the attack.
Justice Served at Newcastle Crown Court
Earlier this month, a jury at Newcastle Crown Court convicted 35-year-old Askew of murder, along with assault and false imprisonment charges. The judge praised the bravery of members of the public who offered first aid and the victims who testified.
Detective Chief Inspector Speaks Out
“This was a truly horrific crime by Robert Askew and his actions will result in David’s family and friends suffering the consequences for the rest of their lives,” said Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Lawrence of Durham Constabulary.
“Although nothing can change what happened that day, I hope David’s family can find some comfort knowing Askew has faced justice for his unforgivable actions. I also want to thank the investigating officers whose dedication put together a strong case ensuring Askew will spend many years behind bars.”
