Scaffolding Pole Smashes into Car on A327

Drama struck the A327 Minley Road on Tuesday 8 November 2022 when a Ford Transit flatbed heading north shed a massive scaffolding pole. The pole flew across the road and smashed into a black Vauxhall Astra driving the opposite way.

Woman Seriously Hurt, Two Kids Escape Unscathed

The pole crashed through the Astra’s driver-side door, seriously injuring the 33-year-old woman from Hook behind the wheel. Thankfully, the two young children in the car escaped without a scratch.

The injured driver was airlifted straight to Southampton General Hospital for emergency treatment.

Truck Driver Sentenced for Dangerous Driving

Peter Lee, 36, of Yorktown Road, Bracknell Forest, the driver of the Ford Transit, was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving. On Friday 27 January, Winchester Crown Court sentenced him to three years behind bars.

Police Highlight the Dangers of Unsecured Loads

“I want to thank everyone who helped with our investigation. This sentence shows we take dangerous driving and load security extremely seriously,” said PC Rhiannon Gibson from the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit.

“We regularly crack down on commercial vehicle drivers who fail to secure their loads properly.”

“The victim has shown incredible strength and we hope this outcome brings some peace.”
