Falmouth Man Jailed for Sick Sexual Coercion Scheme

Jamie Tonkin, 23, has been locked up for spinning a twisted web of lies to force a vulnerable victim into sexual acts. Tonkin falsely told the victim a girl was willing to have sex with him—but only if the victim performed oral sex on Tonkin first.

Deceptive Trap Uncovered

Tonkin, from High Street, Falmouth, pleaded guilty at 1 Crown Court to three charges of causing a person with a mental disorder to engage in sexual activity. Prosecutor Piers Norsworthy revealed how Tonkin “induced, threatened or deceived” the victim on four separate occasions.

The vile plot was exposed when the victim’s parents found suspicious messages and overheard a phone call. The victim had confided in a friend about what Tonkin forced him to do.

Fabricated Romance Fueled the Abuse

Tonkin lied that he was in a sexual relationship with a girl the victim liked. He claimed she demanded the victim perform oral sex on Tonkin first, for a set amount of time, and required him to undress.

On one occasion, Tonkin ejaculated. Though he spoke of anal sex, it never happened. To maintain the ruse, Tonkin concocted fake stories about his and the girl’s supposed sexual encounters.

Multiple Offences Surface

The court also heard that Tonkin previously received a caution for sexually assaulting a girl under 13. Judge Simon Carr said the case was “unusual, possibly unique.” He described how Tonkin exploited the victim’s teenage hesitation and mental disorder to satisfy his own desires.

“On four occasions you coerced and threatened him into performing sex acts on you and he only did this because he believed it was what she wanted and would bring him closer to her. All of these acts were performed against his will.”

Tonkin was sentenced to five years in prison.
