Gun-Tinkerer Danny Harle Jailed for Nearly a Decade
Danny Harle, 26, from Southwark, has been locked up for nine years and nine months after being caught fixing a jammed firearm and coaching a gunman on how to stay deadly. The Old Bailey handed down the sentence on Monday, 21 February.
Covert Recordings Expose Gun Repairs
Police zeroed in on Harle following a Herne Hill shooting in September 2020. Undercover recordings revealed that on 10 October 2020, a mate showed up with a malfunctioning gun, begging Harle for help. Not only did Harle advise on getting the “correct ammunition”, but he also met again that same day to get his hands dirty fixing the jammed weapon.
Harle was recorded advising the owner on gun maintenance, urging, “grease every time you go out there” — a chilling tip to keep the weapon firing smoothly.
Police Slam Harle’s Recklessness
“Harle put others in danger to further his illegal enterprise,” said Detective Constable Mick Grimshaw from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.
“He was clearly caught ‘repairing’ an illegal firearm and coaching others on committing future shootings. His potential to harm and train criminals is terrifying.”
Justice Served in Lambeth
Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Smith from the Central South Command Unit added: “Lambeth is safer because Harle is behind bars. This case shows the Met’s dedication to hunting down dangerous criminals and making sure they face tough sentences.”
Harle was cleared of two attempted murder charges and one possession with intent to endanger life over the Herne Hill shooting, but his role in fixing and enabling gun crime sealed his fate.
