Parents Jailed Over Shocking Death of Nine-Day-Old Baby Ava Grace

Brutal Injuries Lead to Jail Terms

Daniel Nolan, 30, was handed a 10-year prison sentence, while Sophie Nash, 31, was locked up for eight years on Friday. Both were found guilty of causing or allowing the death of their nine-day-old baby, Ava Grace, along with two counts of causing or allowing serious injury and child cruelty.

Tragic End for Tiny Ava

Paramedics called police on 16 August 2017 after little Ava was found unresponsive at a home in Nelson, Lancashire. The newborn was rushed to Royal Blackburn Hospital but tragically died shortly after midnight on 17 August 2017.

Catastrophic Head Injury Caused by Shaking

A post-mortem revealed Ava suffered a catastrophic head injury, most likely from violent shaking. Investigators also uncovered a separate brain injury and a broken femur, which the baby endured in the days before her death.

“The baby had the life shaken out of her,” Preston Crown Court heard.
