Pickpocket Caught After Months on the Run
Investigators circulated CCTV footage showing a man caught red-handed dipping into a woman’s pocket as she paid for a train ticket. The crime happened months ago, but police never forgot him.
Suspect Spotted and Snared at Liverpool Street
On Wednesday, 24 February, officers spotted the same man acting suspiciously at Liverpool Street station. They swooped in and arrested him on the spot. The very next day, he was locked up for 24 weeks.
Cop’s Warning: CCTV Keeps Crooks in Check
“There’s a lot of CCTV on the London Underground,” said Inspector Matt Goldspink from the theft of passenger property team. “We keep all our officers aware of offenders. If criminals enter the network again, it’s very likely they can and will be identified.”
“There is no time limit to offences, as was the case here. Someone who commits a crime on the railway will remain on our radar. We will be watching for them.”
Offender Named and Fined for Stolen Phone
Mihai Roman, 39, from Kingsland Court in Luton, was sentenced at Westminster Magistrates Court. Alongside his jail term, he was ordered to pay £350—the cost of the stolen phone.
The pickpocket incident happened on Saturday, 17 October.
