Sick Predator Wayne Thompson Jailed for Raping Girls Asleep
Thompson’s Dark Crimes Uncovered
Wayne Thompson, 34, lurked in the shadows, attacking girls while they slept. Initially charged with rape after a victim came forward in 2019, his nightmare didn’t end there. While awaiting trial, a second woman stepped forward, revealing she had been abused by Thompson more than 15 years earlier.
Guilty Verdict and Harsh Sentence
Thompson denied all allegations, but a Newcastle Crown Court jury saw through his lies. In April, he was convicted of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault. Last Friday (July 23), the predator was slammed with 15 years behind bars, plus an extended five years on licence. He must also register as a sex offender for life.
Victim Speaks Out, Urges Others to Come Forward
“I didn’t really understand at the time what he’d done was wrong. As I got older, I realised it wasn’t right, but I suffered in silence for so long. Speaking out against him has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it was the right thing. I’d urge anyone who’s been a victim – no matter how long ago – to speak out. I regret not doing it sooner.Police have been so supportive, and I’m so thankful.”
Police Praise Victims’ Bravery
Detective Constable Nicola Wade, who led the investigation, hailed the courage of the victims, who cannot be named for legal reasons. Thompson, of Easington Avenue, Gateshead, faces a lifetime on the Sex Offenders’ Register. Authorities urge anyone suffering abuse to report it immediately.
