Gatwick thief caught on CCTV stealing bike – slapped with jail
Bicycle bandit caught red-handed
Max Huggett, 30, was caught on CCTV snatching a bike from a locked shed near Gatwick Airport’s South Terminal on January 23. The bike owner left it secured but returned to find it gone.
Police track down repeat offender
Airport security quickly reviewed footage showing Huggett taking the bike at 5.45pm. Sussex Police’s Gatwick Intelligence Unit identified him—he’s no stranger to theft and had a suspended sentence for similar crimes at the airport.
Officers searched his address in Redhill, Surrey, finding clothes matching those worn in the footage. Huggett is now held at HMP Lewes.
Jailed for 15 months after admitting theft
At Lewes Crown Court on March 4, Huggett pleaded guilty to breaching his suspended sentence and stealing the bicycle. He was sentenced to 15 months behind bars.
PC Michelle Robinson and Detective Sergeant Ian Warncken said: “Huggett has been a repeat offender at Gatwick Airport, repeatedly stealing bicycles and property. Victims who finish their shifts only to find their belongings stolen face serious disruption. This case shows our commitment to working with partners to catch offenders and protect victims.”
