Drink-Drunk Driver’s Christmas Chaos Ends in Court
Christmas Day Stop Ends in Disaster
Michael McDonagh, 26, from Cloately Crescent, was caught red-handed blowing nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit on Christmas Day. The law allows just 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath, but McDonagh clocked a staggering 89mg. Police stopped him on Assart Way after spotting his car doing a wild, erratic three-point turn at speed.
Failed Stop and Dangerous Driving
When officers signalled for McDonagh to pull over, he ignored them and tried to drive past. When finally spoken to, he appeared drunk. Things got worse — he reversed up a pavement, nearly smashing into a house, then bolted from the scene, dashing into a nearby property and escaping out the back door.
More Trouble on Bail
McDonagh was arrested and charged with drink driving, careless driving, and failing to stop for police. But the troubles didn’t end there. While out on bail, he was caught again on February 15 in Sutton Benger, failing another roadside breath test.
Heavy Hit from the Judge
Facing court on March 15, McDonagh was handed a hefty 24-month driving ban. On top, he was fined £300, ordered to pay £85 in costs, plus a £520 victim surcharge.
