Predator Caught: Paedophile Arrested in Supermarket Car Park Sting
Maurice Clayton, 60, was nabbed last year after travelling 30 miles to meet a woman he believed would let him abuse her 10-year-old daughter. Clayton first contacted the woman via a porn site in September 2020, convinced she was the child’s mother.
Disturbing Chats and Indecent Images
Clayton continued chatting on another social media platform, openly discussing his vile plans to sexually abuse the child. He also shared multiple indecent images during these conversations.
Busted by Undercover Cops in Strood
On 27 October, Clayton journeyed from Oaklands Lane, Biggin Hill, to a Strood car park, ready to meet the supposed mother and then proceed to commit the abuse. What he didn’t know: the mother and child were a sting operation.
Kent Police officers were waiting. Clayton was arrested on the spot.
Two Years Inside and Sexual Harm Order
At Maidstone Crown Court, Clayton admitted attempting to arrange a child sex offence, distributing and possessing indecent images of a child. He was jailed for two years on 16 June 2021 and slapped with a sexual harm prevention order.
Detective Constable Darran Bassett said: “There can be no doubt that Clayton poses a real danger to children. He has displayed a clear desire and determination to sexually abuse a child in the most abhorrent ways. The graphic detail in his online messages was hugely concerning.”
“Protecting children from sexual abuse and harm is a priority for Kent Police and as this case shows we will continue to do everything in our power to identify, and take robust action against people like Clayton.
