Three-year-old Harvey Borrington tragically died from severe head injuries at a home in Jacksdale on 7 August 2021. The injuries were inflicted by 23-year-old Leila Borrington, who claimed the boy had simply fallen from a chair.

Medical experts shattered Borrington’s story, confirming Harvey’s wounds resulted from repeated blows, not a one-off accident. Jury members were shown a harrowing video filmed by Borrington herself, revealing Harvey lying injured on the floor shortly after his fatal collapse. The little boy died in hospital two days later.
Borrington Guilty of Manslaughter and Assault
Although cleared of murder, Borrington was convicted of Harvey’s manslaughter alongside charges of causing grievous bodily harm after breaking his arm, and additional assault. Today, she was sentenced to 15 years behind bars.
Detective Inspector Simon Harrison said: “This was a disturbing and upsetting case to work on and I am pleased that Borrington has now been sentenced. The death of any child is a tragedy, but cases like this are especially awful.
“As a police officer, I am satisfied justice has been done, but no sentence can ease the pain felt by Harvey’s family. My thoughts remain with them today.”
