Detectives now have until Saturday, May 15, to continue questioning these individuals if needed. Meanwhile, a 16-year-old boy from Swindon, initially held, has been released without charge.
Police Urge Calm Amid Social Media Buzz
“I appreciate the concern these arrests have caused,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Martin Snowden, head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East. “Speculation on social media can be very damaging and spread unnecessary fear. There is no believed immediate risk to the public from this ongoing investigation.”
“Public safety is our top priority. We will share updates when possible. For now, people should not be alarmed and carry on with their lives as normal.”
