Fugitive Drug Dealer Caught After 22 Years on the Run at Channel Tunnel
Michael John Ashworth, 57, has finally been nabbed after dodging prison for over two decades. The career criminal was arrested by Kent Police while attempting to board a Eurotunnel shuttle back to the UK from Coquelles on Sunday, August 20.
Escaped Prisoner Arrested After 22 Years
Ashworth absconded from HMP 1, an open prison in Derbyshire, back in 1995. He was serving a five-year sentence for drug offences but vanished after failing to return from a temporary licence with 18 months left to serve.
Long-Running Manhunt Ends at Channel Tunnel
The 57-year-old, who has no fixed address, appeared before magistrates on Monday, August 21, charged with Escaping from Lawful Custody. Ashworth is originally from the Blackburn and Colne areas of Lancashire.
