An inmate at Pentonville Prison sparked panic by setting fire to his cell. The Victorian jail, which holds up to 1,215 prisoners, was soon engulfed in smoke as flames broke out on “A wing.”
Blaze Breaks Out at Pentonville
The alarm went off just after 6.37pm on Sunday, November 15, prompting staff to call the London Fire Brigade. Firefighters raced to the historic prison on Caledonian Road, Islington, to battle the blaze.
Staff Race to Contain Fire
Before fire crews arrived, prison staff sprang into action, trying to snuff out the flames themselves. A prison insider confirmed no injuries were reported.
Automatic Fire Call Protocol in Place
“Fire services are called automatically whenever any fire breaks out,” the source added, highlighting strict safety protocols at the prison.
