Eleven Albanian Stowaways Nabbed in Southampton

Eleven migrants, believed to be from Albania, were caught and detained at Dock Gate 4 on Cunard Road, Southampton, today. The arrests come just days after a high-stakes drama near the Isle of Wight where seven Nigerian stowaways hijacked a vessel, forcing intervention by the Special Boat Service and police.

Border Force and Police Team Up

Hampshire police were called just after 11am and quickly teamed up with Border Force officers to detain the group on suspicion of immigration offences. A pregnant woman among the migrants was rushed to hospital for checks, while a 17-year-old boy was placed under the care of Children’s Services.

Ports Authority and Authorities Respond

“We are aware that the incident involving stowaways on the vessel MV Salome has now been resolved,” said Associated British Ports. “We continue to support government agencies with their investigations and are working closely with the shipping company and owners.”

Hampshire police have now handed the case over fully to Border Force, who are leading further inquiries.
