James Wilson, 22, from Darlington, has been locked up for 14 years after subjecting a woman to a terrifying reign of abuse lasting more than five years. The court heard gut-wrenching details of his brutal attacks that left the victim with lasting physical and emotional wounds.
Reign of Terror: Violence and Control
Wilson’s nightmare campaign began with relentless physical and mental abuse. He routinely attacked the woman using fists, kicks, and even cruel pyramid rings to maximise injury. On one shocking occasion, he smashed her foot with a baseball bat, leaving it badly fractured and swollen.
But his violence didn’t end there—it escalated to shocking new levels, terrifying the victim for years.
Ignoring the Law: Threats & Intimidation
Even after a restraining order was issued, Wilson refused to back down. He threatened the woman with a shotgun if she contacted the police. Thankfully, the long arm of the law finally caught up with him.
In January last year, Wilson was arrested and charged with multiple offences including rape, grievous bodily harm, and coercive control. Despite denying all charges in court, the mountain of evidence led to a guilty verdict on every count.
Victim Left Scarred for Life
The victim’s impact statement laid bare the devastation Wilson caused. She battles anxiety, depression, and PTSD daily. Nightmares and flashbacks torment her, and she lives in constant fear, always checking doors for his possible return.
Judge Chris Smith branded Wilson a “dangerous young man” before sentencing him to 14 years behind bars.
