A deadly crash has rocked Market Place, Ilkeston, Derbyshire. At around 2.10am on Saturday, a van ploughed into a group of people, killing 26-year-old Samuel Wilson on the spot. The heartbroken community is in shock.
Suspect Zac Newman Arrested and Charged
27-year-old Zac Newman from Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, was arrested at the scene. He now faces serious charges including murder, wounding with intent, and attempted grievous bodily harm. Newman is due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court soon.
Outpouring of Grief From Local Football Club and Family
Samuel was a proud Long Eaton local and beloved player at Curzon AFC. The club paid tribute, calling him “kind, loving, funny, talented” and last season’s player of the year. They remembered him as a “friend, brother, son, and boyfriend” whose “infectious smile” will never be forgotten.
“Samuel’s loss has left a huge hole in our hearts,” said his sister on a JustGiving page set up in his memory, which has already raised over £7,000.
