Brutal Beckenham Stabbing: Young Man Guilty of Murder
A 20-year-old man has been found guilty of murder after fatally stabbing 19-year-old Jeremiah Sewell twice in the neck. The shocking attack was reportedly sparked by Sewell’s ties to the Beckenham area.
Violent Attack in Beckenham Place Park
Godfrey Madondo, from Peckham, killed Jeremiah following a chance encounter in Beckenham Place Park in the early hours of July 16 last year. Prosecutors told the Old Bailey the motive was clear: a deadly rivalry based on their different South London neighbourhoods.
Prosecutor Alan Kent KC revealed the stabbing happened in a deserted car park inside the public park. Madondo, wearing a balaclava, approached Jeremiah’s car. When asked where he was from, Jeremiah said Beckenham. Seconds later, Madondo plunged the knife into his neck twice.
Accomplices Tried and Charged
- Khelsi Johnson-Davies, 20, helped dispose of Madondo’s bloodstained clothes and was found guilty of perverting the course of justice.
- Leah Simmonds, 20, admitted the same charge earlier.
- Kadjo Kadio, 19, from Romford, Essex, was cleared of murder and manslaughter charges.
The jury took five hours to reach the unanimous verdict. After the stabbing, Madondo fled but was caught the next day. He refused to answer police questions. A balaclava with Madondo’s DNA was found at Johnson-Davies’ Peckham home, along with incriminating messages advising to wash the bloodied clothes at high temperatures.
Judge Warns of Life Sentence
Judge Nigel Lickley KC remanded Madondo in custody and warned him he faces a life sentence when sentenced on Friday. Johnson-Davies and Simmonds await sentencing in August, with Johnson-Davies released on conditional bail.
