Met Police Officer Sacked for Creepy Data Cheat

A Metropolitan Police officer has been booted without notice after a speedy misconduct hearing on 25 July 2024. Pc Lee Wilkinson misused police systems to spy on a woman he met through a dating app, accessing highly sensitive personal info and using it to intimidate her.

Wilkinson’s Shocking Abuse of Power

Assigned to the Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS), Wilkinson abused his privileged access to secret police databases. He retrieved private details like the woman’s address, bank, mortgage info, and family names. Then he contacted her under a fake identity to intimidate her.

The twisted saga began in February 2023 when Wilkinson chatted with the woman — dubbed “Miss A” — online. Initially hiding behind a fake profile, he later revealed his real name and bragged about running a quick “five-minute profile” using his police credentials.

Alarm Bells Ring with Kent Police

Miss A raised alarm with Kent Police in March 2024 after Wilkinson’s knowledge of her life raised red flags. Kent passed the case to the Met, which launched a full probe. A forensic audit showed Wilkinson accessed her info repeatedly between February and March 2024 via the Police National Computer and other systems.

Gross Misconduct Leads to Instant Dismissal

The misconduct panel slammed Wilkinson for serious breaches of Discreditable Conduct and Confidentiality. The panel called out his high culpabilityharm caused to the victim, and his senior DPS role as major aggravating factors.

“Those tasked with enforcing conduct must hold themselves to the highest standards,” said the chair. “The public expects us to treat such behaviour with the utmost seriousness.”

Wilkinson didn’t show up for the hearing and tried to resign a day earlier. Still, the panel ruled he was a serving officer and had to face the misconduct process. They decided dismissal without notice was the only fit punishment.

Tarnishing Trust and Facing the Banhammer

A Met Police spokesperson said: “This officer’s conduct fell significantly short of the standards expected. Misusing confidential information breaches trust and risks public confidence.”

Wilkinson is now on the College of Policing Barred List, blocking him from any police jobs across the UK. Miss A reportedly suffered serious emotional distress, with the panel recognising the long-term trauma caused.
