Pensioner Jailed for Sexual Assaults on Young Victims in Newark

A 69-year-old pensioner, David Evans, has been locked up for two years after targeting a primary school girl and two young women in a string of shocking sexual assaults. The offences happened between October 2022 and September 2023 in Newark.

Schoolgirl Attacked in Street

Evans first struck on October 29, 2022, when he approached a young girl playing outside. After chatting her up, he sexually assaulted her. The brave child managed to escape and raise the alarm. Evans was arrested and initially freed on conditional bail while police probed further.

More Victims Come Forward

Police linked Evans to two additional attacks after reviewing other incidents in Newark. On August 26, he targeted a young woman in a supermarket. Then on September 30, he committed a similar crime at the bus station. Despite denying all charges during interviews, Evans eventually pleaded guilty to three sexual assaults, including one on a child under 13.

Sentenced and Strictly Controlled

At Nottingham Crown Court, Evans was sentenced to two years behind bars and placed on the sex offenders register for ten years. He is also under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that bans him from talking to strangers in public, sitting next to strangers on public transport, or having any contact with girls.

Nottinghamshire Police’s specialist unit will monitor him closely on release. Any violation of the order could send Evans straight back to prison.

“Evans is clearly a menace to women and girls, and I am pleased he has now been brought to justice,” said Detective Constable Helen Sanders. “The jail term and strict court order are crucial to protect the public and deter future offences.”
