Teens Charged After Seat Thrown Over Westfield Stratford Balcony

Two boys, aged 14 and 15, faced Stratford Magistrates’ Court over a terrifying stunt at Westfield Stratford. They are charged with criminal damage that recklessly endangered life after hurling a seat from a higher floor in the busy East London shopping centre.

£500 Seat Tossed Down Multiple Floors

The shocking incident happened on March 1 when the boys allegedly threw furniture over a barrier onto shoppers below. Court papers state the seat, worth £500, was damaged with blatant disregard for public safety. Their identities remain protected for legal reasons.

The youth hearing, led by magistrate Aneeta Prem, was adjourned to May 21 after it emerged both parents need interpreters. No pleas have been entered as yet.

Strict Bail Conditions for the Teens

While awaiting the next hearing, the boys were released on tough bail terms, including:

  • A strict home curfew
  • No contact between the two
  • A total ban from entering Westfield Stratford

Public Safety Alarm Raised After Wild Incident

Social media swiftly slammed the reckless behaviour. One shopper fumed,

“It could have been catastrophic if anyone was hit — absolutely mindless behaviour.”

Another user demanded,

“Westfield needs stricter surveillance on all levels. This could have ended in tragedy.”

Westfield Stratford is one of London’s busiest shopping hotspots, packed daily with thousands. This incident raises urgent questions about safety and the conduct of youths in public places.
