Teen Charged Over Mobility Scooter Thefts in Malmesbury
A 13-year-old boy has been charged after stealing three mobility scooters in Malmesbury. The youth, whose identity is protected by law, will face Swindon Youth Court on January 17. He faces three counts of aggravated vehicle taking linked to incidents from September 2022.
Targeting the Most Vulnerable
Sergeant Jamie Ball slammed the thefts as “hideous crimes” aimed at Malmesbury’s most vulnerable residents. He said: “These scooters are likely the victims’ only mode of transport. The incidents caused real upset and concern in the local community.”
Police Promise to Crack Down on Youth Crime
Officers have kept victims updated throughout the investigation, including personal visits to reassure them. Sergeant Ball added:
“We take reports of this nature very seriously and will do everything to stamp out anti-social behaviour and youth crime in our community.”
