Teen, 13, Charged Over Mobility Scooter Thefts in Malmesbury

A 13-year-old boy has been charged with stealing three mobility scooters in Malmesbury last September. The youngster, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will face Swindon Youth Court on January 17, accused of three counts of aggravated vehicle taking.

‘Hideous Crime’ Targets Vulnerable

Sergeant Jamie Ball slammed the thefts as “hideous,” saying they hit the most vulnerable in the community by taking their only means of transport. The scooter snatching caused “upset and concern” locally.

Police Promise Action and Updates

“Following talks with the Crown Prosecution Service, charges have been authorised,” Sgt Ball said. “Victims have been kept updated throughout with personal visits from officers to reassure them justice is being pursued.”

“We take these crimes seriously and are committed to stamping out anti-social behaviour and youth crime in our community,” he added.
