Lisa Brown Mystery Deepens as Ex-Boyfriend Flees Prison on Day Release
Scotland-born Lisa Brown vanished without a trace from her Spanish home in November 2015. Now, her family’s nightmare is reignited after her ex, Simon Corner – aka Dean Woods – escaped from an open prison in the UK.
Disappearance Sparks International Drama
Lisa, 32, disappeared from her Guadiaro, San Roque apartment, which she shared with her 8-year-old son, on Wednesday 4 November 2015. Four days later, Spanish police were alerted after she failed to pick her son up from school. When officers entered her flat, signs of a violent struggle alarmed investigators.
Her former boyfriend, luxury yacht dealer Simon Corner (also known as Dean Woods), was immediately questioned. Soon after, Woods fled Spain, triggering a Europe-wide manhunt.
From Denmark to Heathrow: A Bumpy Ride for Woods
- April 2016: Woods arrested in Denmark and extradited back to Spain.
- Imprisoned then released amid lack of evidence against him for Lisa’s disappearance.
- Late 2017: After breaking bail conditions, a European Arrest Warrant was issued.
- Early 2018: Arrested upon arrival at Heathrow Airport, but case against him was dropped due to insufficient evidence.
Despite initial hopes, Spanish lawyers later confirmed Woods would not face prosecution over Lisa’s disappearance. However, he was convicted and jailed for his part in a €10 million drug ring, receiving a 12-year sentence.
Day Release Disaster: Woods Vanishes Again
Now, Woods has gone missing once more after failing to return from day release at HMP Sudbury on Saturday 19 November. Serving a hefty sentence, he was allowed out of the open prison – a decision that has shocked Lisa’s family.
Lisa’s mum, Helen, fumed: “What are they doing giving him day release when he was sentenced to 12 years two years ago and he’s in an open prison, free to obviously come and go as he pleases but didn’t bother to return?”
“While we thought he was inside it gave us some peace and pleasure that he was somehow paying with his freedom but no what an absolute joke of a justice system. Especially with his record of numerous names, passports, help he receives with absconding he should have never been let to go there.”

Woods is described as around 5ft 11in tall, medium build, with short brown hair and brown eyes, speaking with a Liverpool accent.
