Police Attacker Jailed for 22 Months After Dangerous Drive-Off
Khyron Smart-Mullin, 20, from Trowbridge, has been locked up for 22 months after admitting to assaulting a police officer and dangerous driving. The judge handed down the sentence at Swindon Crown Court on July 22.
Cop Injured as Smart-Mullin Charges at Him in Parked Car
The shocking attack happened on June 1 near Devizes. A Wiltshire Police officer approached a white Dacia Jogger parked in a field off Conscience Lane, Rowde. Suddenly, Smart-Mullin sped towards the officer, hitting him and causing injuries serious enough to require hospital treatment. The officer has since returned to restricted duties but suffered immediate medical attention after the assault.
Fleeing Driver Busted for Multiple Charges
After the assault, Smart-Mullin sped off at high speed, sparking a large police hunt. He was arrested and charged not only with actual bodily harm and dangerous driving but also with driving without a licence and no insurance.
Chief Constable Slams Reckless Attack on Police
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Cooper condemned the attack, saying: “This case is just another stark reminder of the dangers officers face whilst on duty, day in, day out.” He praised officers for their swift work in bringing Smart-Mullin to justice and slammed the defendant’s blatant disregard for police work in keeping the public safe.
Driving Ban and Retest for Smart-Mullin
Alongside his prison sentence, Smart-Mullin is banned from driving and must pass a retest to get behind the wheel again. The ban lasts nearly four years from his release date.
