Man Stabbed Six Times in Brutal Radford Attack
A man in his 30s was viciously stabbed six times in Chesil Avenue, Radford, after a terrifying encounter with three attackers. The victim had cycled to the area with a young boy, leaving the child with their bikes while he went to speak to a friend.
Knife-Wielding McGinley Launches Attack
As the victim turned back, he spotted 21-year-old Brennan McGinley approaching the boy and the bikes, holding a knife. When he confronted McGinley, the attacker stabbed him in the lower back. A struggle followed, during which McGinley stabbed the victim multiple times as he tried to defend himself.
The victim managed to stagger up the road but was stabbed for a third time before collapsing. On the ground, a second man stabbed him again, hitting his arm and back.
Third Attacker Hits Victim with Wood, Steals Bike
Then 20-year-old Connor Morris charged at the victim, smashing him over the head with a piece of wood and knocking him to the floor. Both Morris and the second man stamped repeatedly on the victim’s head before fleeing. Morris also made off with the boy’s bike.
Victim Faces Life-Changing Injuries
The victim found shelter in a nearby home, collapsing while awaiting emergency help. Rushed to Queens Medical Centre, he required urgent surgery. One stab wound caused a Grade 4 tear to his right kidney, forcing its removal. He also needed a chest drain to clear air and blood, plus a blood transfusion.
The harrowing attack took place on the night of 24 February 2020. Police later recovered the knife used from a restaurant roof on Wollaton Road.
Killers Sentenced After Court Battle
At Nottingham Crown Court, McGinley, already detained at HMP Manchester, was jailed for nine years after pleading guilty to wounding with intent and possessing a bladed weapon. Morris, held at HMP Nottingham, was sentenced to eight years after being found guilty of wounding with intent and robbery.
“My kids could have lost their dad that day and be mourning me now,” the victim said. “Losing my kidney means I struggle daily to do things I used to. If my kids ever need a kidney, I can’t help them. I’m on strong painkillers and medication for depression and anxiety because of this attack. I suffer from PTSD, reliving this horror constantly.”
Police Urge Community To Act Against Knife Crime
Detective Constable Chelsea Levers of Nottinghamshire Police condemned the “barbaric attack.” She said the victim was “incredibly lucky to be alive” but left with life-changing injuries.
Levers added: “I hope the lengthy jail terms bring some comfort and enable him to move on. The young boy who witnessed this ordeal also deserves to heal fully.”
She urged parents to talk to their children about the dangers of carrying knives. “Nottinghamshire Police take a zero-tolerance stance on knife crime,” she said. “We encourage anyone aware of knife-carrying to report it. Together, we can stop this violence.”
