Woman Airlifted by Coastguard After Fall in West Wight
Late-Night Rescue at Grange Chine
A woman was dramatically airlifted to St Mary’s Hospital after a fall at the bottom of Grange Chine, West Wight, on Tuesday night. The UK Coastguard sprung into action just before 11pm when the casualty was spotted in a tricky, steep area off Military Road.
Coastguard Helicopter and Rescue Team Join Forces
The Coastguard Rescue 175 helicopter and Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were quickly mobilised. Due to the remote terrain, a helicopter winchman was lowered down to reach the injured woman. The team expertly used a highline to guide the winchman safely to the scene.
Injured Woman Winched to Safety
The woman was then carefully winched up and flown to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport. Fortunately, her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
