A fatal crash has rocked East Peckham on the A228 Boyle Way, claiming the lives of a child and a man. A woman remains in critical condition after the shocking collision involving a pony and trap and a DAF tipper truck.
Man Arrested After Deadly Crash
The incident occurred shortly before 6.30 pm yesterday, triggering a massive emergency response. Police confirmed a white DAF tipper truck was travelling northbound between Branbridges Road and Hale Street when it collided with a pony and trap moving in the same direction. Emergency services rushed to the scene where a man in his 30s, who was in the trap, was pronounced dead on arrival. Tragically, a young girl also riding in the trap later died at the hospital. A woman, seriously injured in the crash, remains in a critical condition.
“The young girl was confirmed deceased at the hospital and the woman remains in a critical condition,” said a police spokesperson.
Emergency Response and Investigation Underway
- Police, fire crews, and paramedics responded swiftly to the crash scene.
- Two air ambulances landed nearby to rush injured victims to the hospital.
- The pony, tragically, also died at the scene.
- The 29-year-old driver of the tipper truck from Kent has been arrested and taken into custody.
