Drunk Driver on the Run After Crashing into Shanklin Seafront
Chaos erupted just after 1am on Monday when a silver car smashed into railings and a parking meter on Hope Beach, Shanklin Esplanade. The offender fled the scene, leaving behind hundreds of pounds worth of damage.
Crash Drama on Shanklin Esplanade
Witnesses walking by heard a massive bang as the out-of-control vehicle tore along the seafront. Two anglers, fishing nearby, said they feared for their lives as the car sped straight toward them before veering last minute and smashing into the parking meter and safety railings.
“The engine was screaming and the car was all over the road. It was pure luck nobody was injured,” said one worker at the scene.
Drunk Driver Flees on Foot
The driver, obviously intoxicated, abandoned the wrecked car and ran off before police arrived. A local dog walker described the area as strewn with debris. Two police cars with four officers launched a search, focusing on the nearby Steamer Inn area.
Police Hunt Continues – Vehicle Recovered
The damaged vehicle was taken away on a recovery truck, with Island Roads staff working to secure the area. Police have yet to confirm if they’ve caught the driver.
The hunt is ongoing for the drunk driver who put lives at risk on Shanklin’s seafront.
