Three ambulances erupted in flames outside East Surrey Hospital in Redhill this afternoon, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky.
Blaze Breaks Out at East Surrey Hospital
Surrey Fire and Rescue raced to the scene after being alerted just after 2:15pm today. The cause of the fire remains unknown, but reports confirm that part of the hospital building has also caught fire.
Emergency Services Join Forces
Surrey Police are assisting firefighters as they battle the blaze. The scene is ongoing, with crews working hard to contain the flames.
Ambulance Services Diverted Amid Chaos
A South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) spokesperson revealed patients are being rerouted to nearby hospitals. “We are taking patients to neighbouring hospitals, depending on their location and condition, with capacity also guiding decisions,” she said.
“This includes Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath and others.”
